5 Popular Books/Authors I'll Never Read
A few weeks ago, I gave you my list of books on my Fall TBR. Today, I'm going to give you a list of books I will never, EVER read. I know there's that saying, "Never say never," but I can say never when it comes to books. Here's a list of books I'll never read/authors I'll never read books written by. Also, this list isn't definitive. There's SO MANY books that I'll never read that I could potentially make a Part Two to this.
Haunting/Hunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton
I've never read a "Dark Romance," nor will I ever. This includes Penelope Douglas books, by the way. However, I will never read this book specifically because I've heard that it's about a woman who falls in love with her stalker, who also rapes her numerous times. Like I said, I've never read a "Dark Romance" (which to me is just an excuse to glorify horrible things that real people have actually been through), and this book is a really good reason why.
ACOTAR (or any book) by Sarah J. Maas
I've heard waaaaay too many things about this series. I've watched full breakdowns of every single book (thanks to WithCindy on YouTube), and I just know for a fact that this series will never be for me. I prefer to read actual stories, not a bunch of sex. If I wanted that, I'd go read erotica because at least I'd know it was a bunch of porn. Also, I've heard the author is pretty problematic, and I don't support problematic authors.
From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My reason for not reading this is the same as the reason for not reading ACOTAR. What makes this book worse to me is that it's disturbingly long. Again, I've watched breakdowns for this book, and I know I would rage if I read it only for the page length. Also, due to the fact that the only two characters of colour in the book are named after the colour of their skin AND they're servants to the white characters. HELLO??? RACISM????
Colleen Hoover books
Again, I've watched breakdowns. These books would piss me off, and I only want to read books I'll love or books I think I'll love.
Icebreaker by Hannah Grace
The take I've heard from Newlynova on this book was, "The entire plot of this book could've been an email." Me personally, I don't prefer smutty romance. I love to read about the buildup between the two characters, not their sex-capades. Some of my favourite books don't have smut in them. Smut isn't a requirement for the romance genre, and I feel like a lot of authors forget that. The only genre that requires sex is erotica. If this book was marketed as an erotica, I feel like I would give it a go because I would understand it's lots of smut. But because it's meant to be a romance, I will never read it. I want the yearning and angst, not a bunch of smut.
